To uncover...or not

Ekin Deligoz and Lale Akgun, two Turkish-origin members of the German Parliament, have called for Turkish citizens in Germany ‘to remove their headscarves’ and embrace the European way of life. Ali Kizilkaya, head of the Islamic Council, sharply criticized this call from the two German parliamentarians.
“Parliamentarians cannot interfere in the public way of life. It’s a violation of individual freedoms and rights to issue a call for Muslim women not to wear a headscarf when they are covered of their own accord. Statements about a removal of the headscarf in a bid to adopt to German life show that democracy has not yet been fully internalized.”
What interests me here is the attitude of the head of the Islamic Council, who appears to believe that:
1.members of parliament have no right to speak out on sensitive issues,
2.to criticise the wearing of the headscarf is itself a human rights violation,
3.all ‘covered’ women are covered out of their own free will,
4.any call to remove the veil is proof positive that Germany is not a democratic society.

Now, there's a chap fully integrated into the European way of life...

he must have been learning from the Muslim Council of Britain!

Thank you, Istanbultory, for making me aware of this discussion. I fully agree with your analysis of the attitude of the head of the Islamic Council in Germany.

Ekin Deligöz and Dr. Lale Agkün are members of the Green and the Socialist party, respectively, which has sent them to the German Parliament probably to attract Turkish voters and to promote the immigration of more voters for these parties.

Both are government employees like most members of the Green and the Socialist party which strongly favor socialistic and multicultural programs for the redistribution of wealth known as "social justice". In other words, both are living from the money of the taxpayers and want more of the same for redistributing it to their clientele.

As Paul Belien observed: "European politics will swing dramatically to the Left in the coming decades, owing to the growing influence of an immigrant vote eager to retain and expand the welfare benefits. Another trend, however, is also visible...

While Europe’s cities and major towns turn Muslim and red, the countryside will remain indigenous and will become ever more “islamophobic” and hostile to the cities. The indigenous Europeans – at least if they can afford it – are moving out of the cities (indeed, they are fleeing them)."

How is the trend in Turkey?

I was going to give you a call to take refuge....but alas.....Verity tells me veils are 'haram'

Colin, The German left has made a determined attempt to cultivate the Islamic vote in recent years. The SPD and the Greens both reaped the benefits in the 2002 election The same is true of the British left which prior to 9/11 and the Iraq War could comfortably rely on the active electoral support of 75-80% of Muslims but now can count only on about 25% support. Labour seems to be learning the error of its ways.It is interesting to note that both the German and the British Left are beginning to wake up to the fact that they may have been mistaken in their political opportunism.

Colin,Turks have argued intensively about the permissibility of veiling over the last decade. According to a fairly solid and reliable body of research, Islamic radical women account for about 10-12% of the population. Though that figure seems to be increasing on a regular basis.
Vikki, you too could be one of the veiled ones- they love converts. I could put you in touch with them.....

Thanks a lot for the additional information.

Moreover, you said "Vikki, you too could be one of the veiled ones- they love converts."

I read that one only has to say in the presence of two Mulims that one wants to convert and immediately one has become a member of the club. However, it is forbidden by the penality of death to leave the club again. Istanbultory, is this information correct?

Vikky, I just want to make sure that your are aware of the consequences of your sudden decision to convert and to wear a veil.

Colin, if you say MI is on his way...should I not seek refuge behind the veil? Since IT is willing to help out should I not readily consider this generous offer? As a Mohammedan would it not be easy to to obtain a fatwa....against the pursuer....especially an infidel?

To become a Muslim, you simply have to say the following words:

Ash hadu alla ilaha illa Allah, wa ash hadu anna Mohammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu.

As for leaving the club, it depends. ın Sharia states, they believe that if a sane person who has reached puberty voluntarily apostatizes from Islam, he deserves to be punished.‏ In such a case, it is obligatory for the caliph (or his representative) to ask him to repent and return to Islam. If he does, it is accepted but if he refuses, he is immediately killed.‏
more generally, Muslims believe that Allah has promised the apostate a severe punishment in this life, and an even greater punishment in the next life. So Vikki, there's no turning back.

Wow, Vikki, you are smart!

You are right, "As a Mohammedan would it not be easy to to obtain a fatwa....against the pursuer....especially an infidel?"

What if MI also joins the club? He already feels attracted to its female part. Anyhow, behind a veil you cannot be recognized and therefore you are safe. Come to think of it, I should be in favour of the veil for all women because of the safety issue. Moreover, equal rights for women and men demand that men should also wear the veil so that we all can be very safe.

Additionally, it would solve the problem of discrimination based on sex, religion or race. If everybody looks the same and nobody knows who is behind the veil, discrimination is impossible.

Thank you for the information how to join and to leave the club. A policy which makes it easy to join and impossible to leave a club has the advantage of a constant increase in membership. Maybe the Western club should employ the same "Two Simple Steps to a Successful Membership Drive".

MI would make a first-rate Islamo-fascist. No doubt about it.

You might like this comment:

"Suddenly , Britain seems to be developing into a cultural and religious battleground. Hard on the heels of Jack Straw’s criticism of the Muslim full-face veil, local government minister Phil Woolas has said that Aishah Azmi, the Dewsbury teaching assistant who insists on wearing such a veil in her primary school classroom, should be sacked.

Not to be outdone, the Shadow Home Secretary, David Davis, has accused Muslims of promoting a kind of ‘voluntary apartheid’ by shutting themselves away in closed societies and demanding immunity from criticism, corroding the very foundations of British culture...

..the argument over the place of the veil and the cross in public life is so significant. This is not about prejudice or discrimination. It is about cultural survival."

And yesterday, your good old friend joined the choir never missing a PR opportunity.

According to the Telegraph ,

"Blair wades into Muslim veil row"

Tony Blair intervened today in the growing controversy over Muslim women wearing veils in public, saying it was a “mark of separation” that made other people feel uncomfortable.

At his monthly press conference in No 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister backed a local education authority which suspended a Muslim teaching assistant for refusing to remove her veil during lessons.

Mr Blair said he could “see the reason” why Kirklees Council had suspended Aishah Azmi and said there was now a full scale public debate underway on the extent to which Muslims should integrate into mainstream British society.

He said that the question of school staff wearing the veil should be a matter for the education authority, which should be allowed to take the decision. Asked whether he specifically backed the teaching assistant’s suspension from Headfield Church of England Junior School in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, he said: “I simply say that I back their handling of the case.”"

The Islam that Tony Blair wants to promote is actually nominal Islam, just like the only Christianity he is comfortable with is nominal 'private' Christianity. He doesn't get it...

The Times reported on October, 2006:

"The Muslim teaching assistant who was suspended after she refused to remove her veil in the classroom lost her discrimination case yesterday, but was awarded £1,000 for hurt feelings." The Times has a picture of Aisha Azmi.

Its a crazy world, isn't it. My feelings are often hurt. How can I obtain the £1,000 ?

"Speaking at a press conference in which she was dressed from head to toe in black, her face obscured but for a narrow slit at the eyes, Mrs Azmi claimed that the Government was treating ethnic minorities “as outcasts”. She pledged to continue to uphold her religious beliefs, which she said obliged her to wear the veil, and said that she was “fearful for the consequences for Muslim women in this country”.

"Muslim women who wear the veil are not aliens.. "

Does anybody know if she has a British passport?
